Top 5 Fall Festivities

There is nothing more exciting than embracing all the fun festivities fall brings!  Okay, well, maybe keeping it beach weather all year round would be exciting too.  But, if we are going to have 4 seasons, we may as well look for the best in each of them.

Between all the gorgeous colourful leaves, the overflowing orchards and everyone itching to enjoy the last of the crisp, warm sun, there are is just so much do to in the fall.  Today I am sharing my top 5 fall festivities.

1 – Apple Picking

Who can deny a crispy, juicy apple?  The orchards are so full this time of year and it is the perfect family outing.  Supporting local farmers is a big thing, so find your nearest apple orchard and spend an afternoon climbing trees and filling bags full of apples! We stopped by on the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend to Belliveau Orchards and had so much fun picking juicy honeycrisp apples, baking apples and even got a wagon ride around the orchard!  My favourite places to stop into local to Halifax are Daniel’s Upick and Mason Upick since they are smaller businesses and never as busy!

2 – Corn Maze

We have yet to do the corn maze this fall but it is always a favourite of mine! Either the Green Pig or Noggins Farm are safe bets for a fun afternoon.  Next weekend (27&28th) is the last weekend here in NS for the corn maze and it is supposed to be sunny so our plans are to make it there!

3 – Leaf Collecting

You don’t have to be under 3 feet to appreciate the gorgeous colourful leaves fall brings.  We love going for a drive to look at the leaves!  If it is warm enough, pack up a picnic and have a fall snack outdoors.  Don’t forget to bring a basket for the little babes can have fun picking the leaves.  I sent Harper out over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend with a basket to pick red and yellow leaves for our table centrepiece.  She was SO excited to go on an adventure around the block and was so proud of her full basket of colourful leaves.

4 – Wagon Ride

The air is crisp and it is the perfect time to take a wagon ride!  Here in NS, Hatfield Farms offers weekend family round ups – a full afternoon starting with a horse drawn wagon ride, fun inflatable games for the kids and a petting zoo!  Just don’t forget your cozy blanket scarf and your mug of hot tea!

5 – Pumpkin Carving

Okay so this may be a given seeing that its a Halloween thing to do, BUT who says you have to carve a pumpkin JUST for Halloween?  Invite your friends over and have a pumpkin carving night.  A little wine helps the creativity, right?  Last year we invited our friends and their kids over, layed a big tarp on the floor and had fun making a mess.

**Bonus #6**

It may not be a typical fall festivity but it is one of my fav things about the cooler season.  Find your coziest PJs, pour yourself a hot mug of tea (or that steamed Bailey’s & milk you’ve been waiting for), curl up by the fire and just enjoy the quiet.  Or you can enjoy the mayhem of your house if you have a preschooler that has strewn Barbies and princess gear all over the room.  Either way, that cozy feeling while looking at all the gorgeous, colourful trees outside is one of my favourite ways to enjoy the fall!

With just 1 week left of October, we have only tackled 2 of the 5 things on this list but I am sure we will get to them all!
