The 5 Best Ways to Save Money with Your Wardrobe

Do you ever get in that mode where you feel like you have NOTHING to wear? But in reality you have a closet full of clothes. So then you go buy more clothes and the cycle just repeats? Yea, me too. It can be tiring and expensive. There are so many ways to start to love your closet again and to get creative with your wardrobe (check out this small style challenge for one idea), but today I want to talk about the money! More specific, how to SAVE money with your wardrobe. Let’s face it – I am not going to stop shopping for clothes. So how can I do it without spending so much?

These are my top 5 tips to save money while I do what I love!

1 – Shop Off Season

Okay, so this is a simple one. Everyone knows that the best time to buy a winter jacket is at the end of winter. Shopping off season can save you big money. Sweaters for $10? Yes please! Try to anticipate what you may need for next year and stock up on those pieces while they are on clearance… which brings me to #2

2 – Make a List of What You Need

Do you ever go shopping just to come home and realize that you already have 4 other beige sweaters? I have been guilty of this on several occasions. So make a list of what is missing from your wardrobe. Keep it in your notes on your phone! It doesn’t have to be just for that moment either. Do you need a fancy winter jacket? Are you lacking shorts? You never have nice heels to wear for date night? Keeping a list makes it so easy to save money because you can refer to the list when out shopping. See a massive clearance sale? GREAT! Check your list and see if you can find any of those specific items that you know you need.

3 – Go Thrifting

Thrifting is super trendy right now! The idea of reusing, saving the environment, and just the style on vintage clothing make thrifting such an easy option. This option takes more time and patience, but is so rewarding when you can find those perfect mom jeans for $5 vs $65!
** TIP **
Think outside the box and look at bigger sizes or even the mens section. One of my fav oversized sweaters is actually a mens.

4 – Sell Your Clothes!

There are always pieces that you just don’t grab for anymore but are still in good condition. Why not drop them off at your local consignment shop? I go through my closet on a seasonal basis and move out the items that I didn’t wear that season/year. Don’t have a consignment shop around you? Host a clothing sale! A few girlfriends and I are actually put on a clothing sale this coming weekend and I can’t wait. Think yard sale but all clothes! Get rid of those clothes you don’t wear and use that money to re-invest into new pieces you love!

5 – Host a Clothing Swap

I have done this twice before and it is SUCH a fun event. Gather your girlfriends and each of you bring 15 pieces from your closet that you don’t use anymore. Think clothes, shoes, bags… Everyone can “shop” and go home with a new outfit – All without paying a thing!

There are so many ways you can love your wardrobe without spending a fortune. Shopping smart is key – make a list of what your wardrobe is lacking and hit the sales racks. My fav is to sell off what I don’t use anymore and reinvest that into new pieces. It lets me shop without feeling like I am spending too much.
