The air is crisp. The leaves are red and crunchy. The apple pie is baking and the booties are in the closet. Fall is finally here and I couldn’t be more excited to pack up my shorts and tanks and trade them in for cozy knit sweaters & wool socks.
One thing I love about sweaters is that they don’t often change in style – which means you can really get so much wear out of them year after year. I try to keep it simple with my wardrobe and don’t go overboard with buying new sweaters each winter, but I do pick up a couple new ones to freshen up my outfits.
Here are my must-have sweaters for the season!
The Cardigan
Since I am all about a capsule wardrobe and getting the most out of your pieces, I love the ease that cardigans offer. Those cute camis can stay in your closet this season and just be paired with a cozy cardigan and booties. I like to have an oversized cardigan and a fitted cardigan to switch up my style now and then.
The oversized knit
V-Neck slouchy knits just call my name. I could live in them – paired with leggings & tall wooly socks…and a cup of tea! I was so excited when I saw this one for under $30! It took everything in me not to buy it in every colour. I actually love the look of a slouchy knit over fitted denim and booties – the balance of it is just perfect.
The turtleneck
I may have fought this sweater for a while. All I could think of was my elementary school self rocking my leggings and turtleneck…with an embroidered puppy on the neck of course. BUT styles change and I have since found so many cute turtlenecks WITHOUT embroidered animals on the neck and they are just SO cozy. It is fall – it is cold. Sometimes you need that full coverage to keep the cool breeze from getting in. Plus I think they look super chic with great leather leggings & tall boots.
The classic Pullover
I love a classic preppy look, and a pullover sweater is just the piece you need to create it. Crew necks are my fav with a slight fitted feel. Wear them on their own, but try layering them over a button down shirt! A crisp white button down is perfect for an office vibe, or grab your fall-ready plaid shirt for something more casual.
These 4 sweaters will get you through the whole season with a cozy feeling and looking great!
Your pictures are so cute! I wish I had your hair too!!

Aw Kali, thanks girl! You are too sweet!
I love sweaters too. Give me a cozy cardigan and a comfy pair of jeggings and I’m set for life. I love that they stretch my short sleeved tees all year long. I usually don’t like the turtle neck on me but you’re totally changing my mind here! You look gorge in all of them. I especially like the cream oversized on you!

Thanks Jamie! <3 I think that cream one is a fav. I may need to wear it at least 3 times a week! haha
You should totally try the turtle neck - a long one to rock with those leggings!
I like your style, I’m in to sweaters and being 32 weeks pregnant I can’t wait to be able to wear my regular ones again. Thanks for sharing

Oh that’s so exciting! I know the struggle, I am just noticing this year that I have spent the last 2 years in my maternity/post-partum winter outfits, so it’s been fun to go out and find some new pieces that now fit!

Oversized knits are my jam! And I’m with you- so happy to trade in summer (as much as I love it) for all things fall fashion and pumpkin pie!

I am so happy they are in style – who doesn’t want the excuse to curl up in a cozy sweater that feels like a blanket!?

It took me awhile to get on the turtleneck train too! I think finding the right one though is key and when you do it totally works! I think my favorite fall sweater is an oversized cozy knit!

It is true – the fit makes all the difference! I actually stopped someone last night while I was out for dinner to ask where she got her turtleneck because it was so perfect!
Cozy knits seem to be the winner though.

Oh I love sweaters too! It’s my favorite piece in fall/winter and I’m totally obsessed with long and oversized sweaters.
Thanks for the inspo!
