Have you made your date night plans for Valentine’s Day? Are you stuck on what to do for that special someone?
Regardless of it you celebrate Valentine’s day or not, I am here to share with you some fun ideas to help spice up any date night. Surprise that special someone with a change from your traditional dinner out.
1 – Themed Dinner
If you are like me, you may be stuck home with a little one (because let’s be honest, babysitters can be expensive every week!) but don’t let that stop you from making your evening exciting. Create a whole dinner around a theme like a picnic and a movie, where you set up a blanket and pillows and even make smores over candles .
2 – Chef Experience
This was a big hit with us – find a local chef who will come to you and teach you how to cook! We paired up with another couple and had a sushi chef come and teach us how to make Tempura, sticky rice and sushi rolls. It is such a fun night, plus adds a great skills that both of you can use together in the kitchen.
3 – DIY Home Spa
Treat your partner to a spa date at home. Set up some face masks, some hot stones, and your favourite essential oils for a special treat. Light some candles and play some relaxing music to set the mood. Don’t forget those cozy robes!
4 – Pitch a Tent & Camp Indoors
Remember how much fun it was a kid to make a fort? Snuggle up under a tent with your favourite treats and toss on a movie or just sit and chat over wine! It is funny how a simple change of set up will add some fun and excitement to your evening.
5 – Wine Bar at Home
Bring the date night home by grabbing a couple different bottles of wine (there are a ton of great ones under $15), set up a cheese and meat platter, light some candles and put on some soft music.
6 – Plan a Scavenger Hunt
Plan a hunt for your partner by leaving little clues around the house with certain objects they need to find. When they collect all clues, they find the prize (which could be a cute gift, or even a special outfit you picked out for that night;) )
If you want an adventure to get out of the house, plan a scavenger hunt together. Print out a list of objects or places you must find around town and treat yourselves to something sweet at the end. Here are some cute ideas to get you started.
7 – Get Active!
Is there a local rock climbing gym in your area? A Go-Carting track? Or how about a paint ball yard? Get your heart racing with a fun and active outting and raise those happy hormones that have you connecting and feeling so in love. (Do you ever wonder why everyone falls in love so quickly on the Bachelor?!)
8 – Ebrace the season!
Valentine’s day here in Eastern Canada is cold, so lace up those skates and rock the cheesy date night of skating around the rink. Planning a summer time date? How about roller blading, or hiking to a waterfall with a picnic! Are you in a heat wave? Go scope out the BEST places for ice cream – and try a scoop at every spot!
9 – Take a food truck tour
They may be a little sparse in the wintertime, but when the sun starts shining, the food trucks come out! Did you know there is an app to find out where those glorious trucks are hiding? If you are local, try Street Food Halifax. If not, Eat.St is also a great resource. Spend the evening scoping out all the greatest food trucks and grabbing a taste from each one.
10 – Recreate a Favourite Memory
Is there something that you are your partner have done that, when you think back on it, always makes you smile? How about the place you got engaged? Or that time that you got stuck on the ferris wheel? Recreate one of your favourite memories together and bring that fun spark back into your date night.
11 – Get Geeky
Check out your local museums! Some of the most fun dates I have had with my hubby have been exploring different museums and galleries. Locally in Halifax, many museums are open late and are free Wednesday evenings! Stroll through the art gallery (and even critique the pieces like you know what your talking about!), watch the starts at the science museum and discovery centres.
Wow, these tips are so great! I think nearly everything from this list can be so much fun and special.
Thanks for sharing this!

So many great date night ideas! I never thought of why it would be that active dates are so common on the bachelor- but that makes so much sense. I think I’ll have to try something out of my comfort zone soon! ❤️❤️❤️ Jamie

Its all in the adrenaline and hormones! I mean, who wouldn’t fall in love while bungee jumping together or taking a helicopter ride over the city! We keep it a little more “everyday” haha but love hiking, scavenger hunts and rock climbing!
Such a good list of things to do! We will be staying at home with the girls and having a fun little festive dinner!

The Chef experience is SO much fun! But totally agree it should involve a wine bar, and then end with a spa treat! I’ll have to tell my hubs that!
