Okay, so it is no surprise I love shopping. I mean, buying clothes is my happy place. I get excited for all the new outfits I can put together. BUT, the cost of shopping every season can add up and get overwhelming. Finding smart ways to shop excites me just as much as shopping itself so you can only imagine how excited I was to find a wholesaler sample sale!
Just like in store, wholesaler companies need to offload their seasonal items to make room for the new products. If you are local to Halifax, I highly suggest you follow UrbanButter on Facebook. They hold several sample sales a year when they switch over their seasonal items. This is the first one I was able to attend and I was like a kid in a candy shop! I bought 5 items for $105, which would have been close to the price of just one of the items at full retail value. They had pieces marked down from $10 -20, and were letting their recent fall picks go at wholesale value!
(they aren’t at the sample sale pricing, but I found some of my finds and similar items for you top shop below!)
Supporting small, local shops is always important to me, but also taking advantage of great sales is important to my budget! If you are not local, check out your local wholesalers and see if they have sample sales that you can take advantage of!
My tips for shopping a sample sale? They can get overwhelming because you walk into a room full of clothes at a major discount. It can be easy to fill up your arms and walk out with pieces that you don’t really need just because they were on sale. So here are my fav tips to follow:
- Go in with a list of things you need or have had your eye on. I have been looking for a cozy outwear jacket that can be dressy or casual but is not your typical “snow coat”. I snagged a cozy teddy bear jacket by Cupcakes and Cashmere for only $10!
- Stock up on basics – this sale was loaded with Z Supply tees. Basics are the staple of your wardrobe! I wanted to walk out with all the Z Supply tees I could find, but settled on this faux-suede one in a great neutral!
- Set a budget! You can find SO many pieces you fall in love with and, although they are on sale, the price adds up quickly. So set yourself a budget and take time to sort through each piece keeping only the ones you love and fit that budget.
- Wear light clothes and layers. There are not often large change rooms so wearing a basic cami and jeans or leggings is an easy way to be able to try on tops quickly without waiting in a line up for a dressing room.
- Get there early! I was lucky enough to arrive a few minutes before it started and noticed they had already opened the doors. I was able to shop for the first 20 mins with only a handful of people in the store. Since it is a sample sale there are often only 1 of each piece and sizes are limited. Getting there early means you also get first dibs at all the goods!
Here is how I plan to style just a few of the pieces I walked out with!
Love the flat lays! Great outfits 🙂
