Sophisticated Playroom

Thanks to Opposite Wall for sponsoring this post! Their prints and frames make decorating so easy. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

In the new house, Harper got her own playroom. It is visible from the kitchen & living room, but allows her to make her mess while she plays without all the toys spilling into the living area. Because it is a part of the main floor and a room we use quite often I wanted to decorate the room in a way that blends with the rest of our home. A playroom can be fun and stylish at the same time!

With a gorgeous blank canvas and huge white walls, I knew I wanted some kind of accent wall. When Harper is grown up the basement will become her playroom and this space will be an office or my reading room (I know, big nerd!). Having something that can grow with us and with the trends was an important factor.

I finally decided on a DIY photo ledge and found the most gorgeous prints from Opposite wall to style it with. They have a collection of beautiful, minimalist prints that are not only on trend but so affordable. They also have frames for the prints, which makes putting a space together that much easier!

I wanted this space to incorporate the entire family so I made the photo ledge big enough to accommodate several frames. I started by picking the prints that really spoke to me and brought in some playfulness. Our home decor is very fresh, minimal and natural. I wanted to keep this area cohesive while adding a little fun. My plan is to layer in a couple more frames that house Harper’s own artwork. After all, it is her playroom and I want her to feel proud of the things she creates!

To cut down on the playroom clutter I found baskets that tie in the wood from the prints and frames. She has one just for her stuffies and one to keep those random toys that never seem to have go-to place. I also used white plastic baskets in the TV stand that keep her Barbies, accessories and toys out of the way.

I just love how the photo wall and all the minimalist prints from Opposite Wall really elevate the look of this room and brings in so much design without being overwhelming. It brings your eyes to the artwork when you walk in instead of to the toys that may be scattered across the floor on a daily basis.

My tips for creating a sophisticated playroom?
* Choose a colour pallet that blends in with your current decor.
* Stick with neutrals for a timeless look
* Use minimalist artwork to tie the space together
* Plants will always add a fresh feel to any room
*Use hidden storage. We use the closet in the room to house most of her craft supplies, puzzles and dress up clothes.
*Baskets! Baskets help hide the daily clutter and gives your child a dedicated place for their things.

You don’t have to compromise style for function! Yes, this space is for your kids but that doesn’t mean everything must be pastels or bright colours.

Wow! I’m blown away with how classy that playroom is! I love those prints you chose and am going to have to have a look at the website. The colors are so gorgeously neutral and it just looks like a cozy place to spend time in (kid or not). What a talented decorator you are!
