Now that my front entry is finally put together (check it out here) I am moving onto the mudroom. I always like to create mood boards for my space so that I can get a better sense of how the design will pull together. Today I am sharing my mudroom mood board and my plan to overhaul this small space.
Mudroom Mood Board
When we built our house I had done a sketch of how I wanted out mudroom to be and they executed it perfectly. The only problem is that my design didn’t turn out to be as functional as I expected. The white bench top is always getting coffee stains on it and there are way too many cubbies (none of which fit proper baskets) leading to stuff just piling up and filling the shelves in no particular order. I love the concept of the room, but not the everyday functionality of it.
The old mudroom
Because it is a small space I am giving myself a very tight budget and relying on a DIY style to complete it. The bottom bench is staying put, as is the shiplap and hooks. I am going to tear out all the cubbies and replace just the ones along the side wall with a slightly larger size to fit a big basket. The cubbies up top are going to be replaced with a photo ledge and more shiplap straight to the ceiling. The prints and frames I chose are from OppositeWall – you can get 25% off with code KatrinaGwen25 from October 28th – Nov 11th! I picked out some gorgeous white oak wood that, with thanks to my brother-in-law, I am going to plane down and glue together for a natural wood-top bench. A little paint on the garage door and a new rug should have this space looking refreshed and functional!
I am in demo mode this week so I hope you have the finished product ready to share with you shortly!
