Camo has been a huge trend over the past year and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. I mean, we all saw JT rock the superbowl in his camo get-up. I held off and fought it for awhile but every time I see it styled I just can’t help but like it more and more. Originally from New Brunswick, Canada, I often saw camo worn year round but it was always in the form of hunting gear. This kind of ruined my take on camo being stylish and is why I held off on the trend for so long. But fear not – I have come to love the trend and am here to share how to wear camo this spring without looking like you are about to go on a hunting trip!
Structure
Finding a piece that is structured is an easy way to wear camo without looking sloppy. I love this utility jacket that I snagged last week. A layering piece like this can make so many outfits (Stay tuned – next week I will show you 4 ways to wear this jacket!) It has a drawstring to cinch the waist, giving you some shape, and the lapels and collar are stiff enough to stay pulled up if you feel a preppy vibe.
Colour
There are so many styles, prints, and colour tones of camo. Stay away from the orange, red or blue prints. Those scream hunting season! I like to stick with the faded or dark greens.
Fit
The fit of a piece makes the difference between stylish and sloppy. In saying that, I don’t mean that everything you own should be super tight. Make sure the piece fits you properly and match it with the right pieces. I love my camo hoodie. It is a little oversized and super comfy, but with jeggings and booties, the look has the perfect casual feel. (ps. the hoodie is 20% off this week with code LOVE20). I love a camo pant that fits like a jegging (and am totally in search of some!) – they are perfect to pair with a slouchy white tee. If your camo piece is an oversized top, pair it with a slim fitting bottom or vice versa …which leads me to my next tip.
Balance
Styling any trend is all about balance. A camo jacket with matching hat and pants just doesn’t cut it. Use your camo piece as a pop to your outfit. It is just another print like stripes or plaid. Try adding a girly touch to make it more feminine like blush earrings, a pom pom beanie, a preppy tote or even a great pink lip colour.

Girl you can rock camo! You make it look girly and cute and I totally agree that it needs to be a pop of camo, not a whole outfit of camo!
