Are you the kind of person who loves to decorate for the seasons? Aside from the usual Christmas decor and maybe a couple throw pillows I tend to keep the interior of my home consistent throughout the year. But my front porch? Now that is the place I love to switch with the seasons, especially fall! There is just something that makes me so happy when I change out my colourful flowers for cozy mums and pumpkins. I am sharing my steps to a fall front porch makeover!
BEFORE :
Flowers
The easiest place to start is with your flowers. Mums are so great because they really hold up throughout the season. The colours are just made for fall. Keep it neutral with white or add in some fun pops of colour. My favourites are the burnt oranges. You don’t have to spend a fortune. I found this big one from Costco for under $15. Find a cute pot that you can reuse every year. Barrels or baskets make the perfect planter and add some fun texture to your space. Since we have a modern look to our home (and because I didn’t want to overspend) I kept it simple and just used the black planters they came in! I added in some tall grass for height (and because its an annual I snagged on clearance and will plant it before the frost!)
Front Mat
I have been wanting a fun front mat forever and @DarlingDoormats creates THE cutest ones! My biggest problem was narrowing down what I wanted because I had ALL the Pinterest inspo. I finally settled on this one and love that I can use it year round.
Layering your doormat gives so much texture and lets you add some colour and personality to your small space. Anything striped or checked is an easy place to start.
** TIP ** Switch up the bottom doormat with each season to bring some colour and print to your front porch!
Pumpkins
You can’t have a fall front porch without pumpkins. The best part is that you can find so many shapes, sizes and colours that is is so easy to add it layers and height (a key part to staging any space)! I love the idea of mixing pumpkins and gourds to bring in some colour. I find a local pumpkin patch or orchard is the best place to find a great variety for a good price.
** TIP ** Check out your local grocery store. I know mine always has a bag of mini pumpkins and decorative gourds in the produce section that are perfect for outdoor or indoor decor!
The Shoe Shot
Is it really a fall front porch without a cute shoe/coffee shot? Just kidding! Just a few simple steps will get your front porch looking cute for the season. You don’t have to go overboard or spend a lot of money. Using hay stacks? Store them to reuse next year! Buy faux pumpkins and spray paint them whatever colour you want and they will last you season after season. Cutting down some trees? Grab a stump or cut a few rough slices for some decor. Layering your plants and pumpkins can make a big impact on a small budget.
