This month my husband and I celebrate our 4th anniversary. It is crazy to think that four years have already gone by, but then again it also feels like it has been so many more. We take turns planning our anniversary dates and this year it was mine. We are so lucky to have my parents close by and willing to watch our daughter while we get away. We are in the midst of building a house so I wanted to keep our celebration budget friendly and I found the BEST ways to spend the weekend here in town.
This year is an anniversary staycation!
I wanted to start the day off with some adventure so I booked us in for a ropes course and zip lining! If you head towards the valley, away from Halifax (just before you get to the vineyards…which I will have to tell you ALL about next month!) there is a great spot called OnTree! An outdoor ropes course through the trees will give you a crazy workout and is SO much fun. They have courses at all levels to climb and navigate through. We started off with a couple easy courses to get the hang of it and ended up trying a black diamond which left me bruised and tired but feeling great!
After a thrilling morning it was time to cool down. We drove the 45 mins back into town and stopped for some sushi to refuel. The hydrostone market is such a great spot to sit on a patio and pop into some local shops. Hamachi Sushi did not disappoint!
What better way to recover after climbing trees than a massage? Maybe this is a girly thing, but it is my anniversary too, right? I can’t get enough of Spirit Spa (either location!) and how amazing their service is. With our crazy everyday life as full-time working parents to a 3 year old, an hour of quiet and relaxation is totally welcomed! Plus their steam showers after are so amazing and just what we needed after our adventurous tree climbing morning.
From high energy adventure to relaxing massages, it was time to get ready for a night on the town. If you know me at all you know that i can’t pass up a taco. Like, EVER! They are legit my favourite food of all time. So obviously I was so excited to hear about the opening of a brand new taco joint, Antojo, in town. Like I said before, being parents and living in the suburbs makes it hard to find the time to head downtown to check out a new restaurant but we finally had our chance! I can’t even find the words to describe how much fun we had and how amazing the food was. From the Green Enchiladas to the Adobo Chicken tacos (which, by the way are all made with corn tortillas so perfect for this gluten free girl) we filled our bellies with the best tastes, salsas and margaritas in town!
I am all about rounding out a vacation. I mean, who wants to wake up in the morning, pack up and go home? It is just depressing! So the anniversary staycation didn’t stop there. After gloriously sleeping in with no tiny voice asking us to come watch cartoons at 6am, we left the hotel and headed for the waterfront. What better way to spend the morning than to take a ferry ride to the cutest cafe for breakfast? The Halifax-Dartmouth ferry is nothing fancy and costs all of $2.50 (round trip!) to go on, but neither of us had ever taken the ferry before. So I thought, why not make it a cute morning date? Tea in hand we hopped on the ferry and headed to the local creperie (which I was SO excited to learn had gluten free crepes!) It was 11am and the place was packed! We stuffed our faces with the Bon Matin Crepe filled with egg, ham, cheese and garlic aoli, and of course a desert crepe with nutella (because have you really enjoyed a crepe without nutella?).
It was a jammed, packed 24 getaway and it was so much fun! We loved exploring a little more of our city and trying new things. I can’t even name a highlight because each part of our staycation was amazing. The fact that we were able to getaway from home without the long hours of travel was a treat.
Amazing post!
