5×5 Summer Challenge – Maximize your wardrobe!

Do you ever find yourself in a jeans&tee rut? Struggling to get dressed every morning, finding yourself wearing the same outfit on repeat, but not even loving it?  That is me! My closet is full of great pieces, but for some reason I just keep grabbing for the same thing and then feeling frustrated.

Well, I found an amazing group of stylish mamas who invited me to join their summer 5×5 challenge.  It happened at the perfect moment when I needed a push to really look at my closet and how I style my pieces.  If I feel like I need to shop for new outfits every other weekend either I am choosing the wrong pieces or just not maximizing them!

So what is a 5×5 Challenge?  Here is the scoop:

1 – Pick 5 pieces from your closet that you can mix & match to create 5 outfits.  I tend to stick to neutrals, or a colour pallet to help.

2 – Use shoes, jewels (Yayy!), bags, and other accessories to help create your looks.

3 – take a picture of your outfits each day and post them along with the #5x5summerchallenge and follow along to get some great outfit inspiration!  Follow me on Instagram to see each look!

Here are my 5 pieces!

I decided on neutral style – not too dressy, not too casual – for this one as I am going to be either at work or at home with my toddler.  I wanted to challenge myself to use basic pieces from my closet to really create those business casual outfits that I can also wear comfortably around the house.  This is my first challenge and it was a little hard to choose my pieces so I went for neutral, easy to mix & match pieces that, individually, I loved.

Piece 1 – Gap Ankle Jeggings
I grabbed these a month ago at the Factory Outlet.  I had never bought Gap jeans before, but am SO happy with the fit.  Jeans are a staple in my wardrobe so I had to have a pair as part of my 5.

Piece 2 – Black Velvet Tee
A basic slouchy v-neck tee.  I love basic tees (I have a whole post about them!).  I figured this would be      neutral enough to be able to make outfits dressy or casual.

Piece 3 – White Lace Trimmed Tank
Another find from Pseudio – ONLY is the brand.  I can’t find it online but here is a similar one.  This is a great tank with gorgeous lace trim.  It is a blouse material so I love the way it can dress up an outfit.  Being so light, it is also a great layering piece.

Piece 4 – Printed Joggers
These DEX joggers are SO comfy I can’t WAIT to wear them all day! HBC has a similar pair on sale!  These were my “stand-out” piece of the 5×5.  I actually built my 5 pieces around these joggers because I knew I really wanted to showcase how to wear them multiple ways (or maybe to help myself justify the purchase!)

Piece 5 – Olive Button Up Shirt
I scored this great TNA fall staple from the Aritzia sale this past week.  Nordstrom has a great one similar by LUSH.  This is a great layering piece in itself.  It can be worn as a shirt or a jacket, so I figured I could easily make a few outfits with this top alone.

Follow along on my Instagram (Check the feed below!) and join in! I can’t wait to really maximize my closet and create some great outfits.
