5 Things to Organize in 2021

Happy 2021! New year, new you? Okay, maybe you can ditch the cliches and the pressure to make each year that much better than the last. One thing that is great to do in the new year is to organize your space. Especially after the holidays, closets and drawers tend to get stuffed with random odds and ends, papers and boxes and just things that you don’t use anymore. Kick off the new year with a fresh space with these 5 things to organize in 2021!

1 – Junk Drawer

Everyone has one. Mine is in my kitchen and it becomes the catchall for mail, hair clips, measuring tapes, ipads and so many things. Dump it all out, wipe out the drawer and, one by one, decide what is going to go back in. I like to grab mesh baskets or plastic dividers for my drawers to help wrangle those loose items and keep it organized.

2 – Tupperware Drawer

Cabinet, basket or drawer – no matter where you store your containers they the matching pieces always seem to disappear. Save yourself the frustration of trying to find matching containers and lids and go through your stash, ditching anything that doesn’t have a matching pair.

3 – Linen Closet

This is another space that gets out of control so easily. With a big linen closet I like to keep my “extras” in there, as well as cleaning supplies. And I don’t want to even share how many odd pillowcases I stumbled across! Take out all your items and decide if they are worth keeping. Lots of animal shelters are always looking for old towels and sheets to be donated. Fold your sets together and tuck the matching pillowcases between the fitted and flat sheet so that you don’t lose them. Baskets are a girls best friend – well, at least they are my best friend! Use them to keep your first aid supplies and other toiletries in place.

4 – Toy Room

If you have little ones you know the struggle of adding all those new holiday toys to the toy room. There is just never enough room! It is the perfect time to downsize and sell or donate those toys that your littles just don’t play with anymore. This season I tackled the playroom closet using these dollarstore bins. Not only do they keep the mess contained but they are easy for my little one to see whats in there and grab the box she wants to play with. It also makes clean up time easier when there is a designated space for the toys or activities to go.

5 – Your closet

Of all things to organize in 2021, this may be the biggest. But I find it is the space that makes the biggest impact. I try to go through my closet at least once a year and pull out pieces that I just don’t grab for anymore. You know, those pants that are SO darn cute but yet you havn’t worn them in over a year? Or that sweater that is so pretty but has sat in the back of the closet, season after season? Organizing your closet will actually make you love your wardrobe that much more because you’ll be left with pieces that you grab for daily and that make you feel great. If some pieces are still in great condition try selling them to make some cash to reinvest into your wardrobe.

I know 2020 was the year of Marie Kondo and quarentine decluttering, but there has most likely been a pile up of things that need some organizing as we roll into 2021. Clearing out these small spaces can make space for you to breath, to relax and to feel ready to tackle anything on your list for 2021!
