I am no green activist, but I do recognise the impact that our lifestyle has on the world, the environment and our bodies. I am slowly starting to be more conscious of the products I use. Limiting harsh chemicals, finding more natural based products is a goal of mine. I have found 5 simple ways to switch up the products I use to become more green and environmentally friendly.
These are all products that I LOVE and that actually work! They made the switch so easy and I feel better knowing that I am reducing my chemical and carbon footprint in one small way.
1 – Native Natural Deodorant
I cannot rant and rave about this enough. Who knew that deodorant had so many chemicals in it? But then again, who wants to risk going chemical free but being stinky? Not I! I have tried my fair share of natrual based deodorants and have had very little success until this brand. It is a white stick, so it is not sticky like a gel. It comes in a ton of great scents (my fav is the coconut!) that are not overpowering at all. AND IT WORKS! Some people say to reapply half way through the day, but I have had no problem with wear it all day long without any issues! It is also a very reasonable cost with NO shipping fees!
2 – GrinBrush Toothbrush
This is a new product that Grinbrush sent to me to try. I have to say the idea is brilliant! Everyone knows that you are supposed to change your toothbrush every 3 months (…right? Does anyone actually follow that rule all the time?) I like to toss mine after a bad cold because I don’t need those germs getting me sick again. But think about how much plastic you are throwing away every time you discard a toothbrush. Grinbrush makes a more eco-friendly toothbrush that allows you to detach the head and the get a replacement. They will even ship you new toothbrush heads on a regular basis so you don’t forget! The starter kit is only $15 and comes with 3 heads, so it’s almost the same price as buying 3 toothbrushes but you are helping the environment. Did I mention that the handle is made to not roll over…because my toothbrush touching my counter tops kinda grosses me out!
They were sweet enough to give me a 15% code for you to try them out! Just use code GRINSTAGRAM at checkout!
3 – Sage Essential Oils
When my daughter was born I became very aware of what I was using on my skin. She spent so much time snuggled up on me I didn’t feel like wearing my usual perfume. I still wanted a go-to scent because baby spit was not doing it for me. I stumbled into the Sage store and instantly fell in love. Natural essential oils that smelled amazing, came in a roll on applicator and wouldn’t be harmful to my daughter. Fast forward 3 years and I still wear them! My favourite is the Stress Release, but close seconds are Energy, Sleep Well, and Yoga.
4 – Shea Butter for Eyebrow Wax
Tame those unruly eyebrows easily with a natural product like L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Bars. I like to fill in my eyebrows with a pencil or a cream, but on the days when I am doing much makeup, I just need them to lay flat. Use your spoolie on this bar of soap to get a natural and lightweight hold to those eyebrows. Or just use it in the shower as a great moisturising soap! Gentle, natural and easy.
5 – Lush Cold Cream
I’ve been a long time fan of LUSH. Their massage bars are my fav way to sooth a sunburn and their bath bombs pair perfectly with a good book, and glass of wine for a relaxing evening. Have you tried their skincare? I am all about easy when it comes to a skin care routine. I don’t have the time or patience to follow 17 steps to wash my face. Their Ultrabland saves me! Just rub it all over your dry face, working it in to remove all your makeup. Wipe it all off with a damp cloth or splash your face clean and you’re done! All natural ingredients, they don’t test on animals, AND if you return 5 empty LUSH pots for recycling, they gift you a face mask!
These are 5 easy ways that I was able to reduce the use of chemicals and go more green with my toiletry products. I am so happy with each change and even more happy that I am helping to create a more eco-friendly world for my daughter.
These are good tips! thanks for sharing! I’d love to try more lush products, I’ve been impressed with the ones I have tried so far 🙂
Hope you had a wonderful weekend! It was so cold here, winter has really hit!
