5 Birthday Gift Ideas for any 5 Year Old

I can’t believe that Harper will be turning 5! I know every parent tells you it goes so fast, but my goodness does it ever. She has grown into her own little person full of personality and sass and I couldn’t be more proud. I always find her birthday a challenging one for gifts because it is so close to Christmas. She has already been spoiled by Santa and family and we try to be minimal in the toy area. So what do you get a 5 year old for her birthday? I am sharing my top 5 birthday gift ideas!

1 – Matching Necklaces

Harper loves all things girly. She always asks to wear my jewellery and makeup. If you have a girly girl, or one who is very sentimental, treat her with a piece of jewellery that means something. These two necklaces are the perfect pieces for a “mommy & me” birthday gift set. The tiny initial and shorter chain makes it the perfect size for any school age child (and still fits me when I want to borrow it!) You can get exact matching pieces, or ones that mean the same like our set.

2 – Craft Sets

Activities are always a great idea for any preschooler. It keeps them busy and helps develop those fine motor skills. There is a huge feeling of satisfaction when your little one can create something new. These sets come with all the materials and instructions on how to make the cutest creatures.

3 – Dressed Up Movie Date

We love experience gifts! It means quality time spent with each other. Is there a movie out that your little one loves? Frozen 2 is currently in theatres, and even though Harper has seen it twice already (I know, spoiled!) she would be thrilled to go again. So grab a movie pass and a cute dress up costume or outfit to match them movie and make it a date day!

4 – Jewellery Kit

Similar to the craft sets, these jewellery sets are great ways to keep your little one busy and creative. Harper was gifted the snap together beads for her birthday previously and she still plays with them all the time!

5 – Puzzles

We are big into puzzles. Again it is the basis of an activity for learning! Find one of their favourite characters like Frozen or Toy Story, or even this cute zoo animal set.

6 – Cozy Night In

Okay, I know I said 5 birthday gift ideas, but I love this one so much I had to share. We are big on cozy nights in. A movie and snacks get Harper so excited. So treat the birthday boy or girl to a movie night. Get them a fluffy robe, new slippers and wrap them up with their favourite treat like a chocolate bar or popcorn. You could even wrap up a new movie or print out a movie ticket.

When it comes to birthday gift ideas for a 5 year old you don’t have to grab for the newest and latest toy. They have so much fun with experiences and activities that can keep them busy and learning (without even knowing it). We want to teach Harper that birthdays are not about receiving things but about celebrating together. These 5 (+1) gift ideas are perfect ways to do just that!

I didn’t believe it either Katrina when people told me time flies by. I can’t believe at just how true their words were and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down at all. These are great gift ideas and I agree trying to buy gifts that are not toys for a kid can be challenging. My son wants more trains even though our house looks like a train station already! I love the idea of puzzles and have been considering it for the little guy. His birthday is March so I am glad to have a few months in advance to look! I hope your week is off to a great start and happy Monday!
